Corporate Portals - a fast growing market that attracts venture capital

The National Pension Insurance Fund (The 6th AP-Fund) and the venture capital company Emerging Technologies invest 9.3 million Euros in the Swedish company Linq, which is opening up an office in London shortly. Linq has developed the product family LinqPortal for complete corporate portals, a fast growing market in both Europe and the U.S. The corporate portals bring all the information and functions that earlier were spread all over the intranet and other technical systems together, and in that way makes it clear and useful. This makes it possible for big companies to function as small companies where all the information is shared between the co-workers.

- We solve a problem that exists in big companies all over the world, says Michael Mandahl, CEO at Linq. The capital injection makes it possible for us to make a faster expansion in Europe. We are just setting up an office in Munich and we will also set up a business in London before Christmas. Our goal is to operate in six to seven different countries within six months.

The target group constitutes big companies and organizations that deal with a considerable amount of information and communication every day. The LinqPortal has to date created a very big interest and several large companies have lined up to make "test portals". Linq´s actual customer list contains for example SAS, Dell and the City of Gothenburg.

- We have identified this market as one of the most interesting ones within the IT area today, says Peter Sandberg, CEO at the National Pension Insurance Fund. Linq´s products for corporate portals are on the front edge of the development. Their mobile access solutions make the company very well positioned, as well on the European market as on the market in the U.S.

- Corporate Portals are already a billion dollar market on advance in the U.S, says Kjell Spångberg, CEO at Emerging Technologies. I have followed some of the largest companies on this market in the U.S, but my opinion is that the most interesting company is to be found here in Sweden. Linq has developed a product with an enormous potential. Linq has also reached a more advanced point in their development and their products have more strengths and advantages than its American competitors.

The LinqPortal is based on Microsoft Back Office and Microsoft Office. These two platforms are already standard at many companies. By full WAP-access to all the portal applications the Linq products can also be used in a mobile way. This makes it possible for all co-workers to send and receive e-mail and get access to statistics and project documents directly from their mobile phone. A printout function makes it possible to print documents on printers available on the intranet or on a fax anywhere in the world.

- Big companies lose power simply by being so large, very much due to the information being unforeseeable and therefore do not reach its purpose in time. Our products make it possible for people in big organizations to share the information with the same speed that is manageable in small companies. You can say that we simulate the little company in the big company. The co-workers become more active, which makes the entire company faster and more competitive, says Michael Mandahl.
