Broad-based co-operation with portal specialist will provide 100 mobile applications and new markets

A long-term co-operative agreement has been concluded between Linq of Sweden, Europe's leading corporate portal specialist and Unisys, the global specialist in E-trade solutions. The details were revealed in connection with the GSM World Congress in Cannes. For Unisys, the agreement will enable the introduction of more than 100 mobile applications for corporate portals, based on the Swedish product. These would be launched within the next 18 months on to over 100 markets across the world. Such portal applications would be offered as "hosted" services. The LinqPortal product has also been chosen to in order to raise Unisys' own productivity in respect of its sales force, part of the group's total of 37 000 staff working in over 100 countries. Finally, this permits global distribution to the operators' market of the LinqPortal and LinqMobilizer products. Since their introduction just over a year ago, a hundred or so licences and installations have already been sold for these services. They have been shown to offer increased efficiency among mobile users, who can then obtain access to their parent company's intranet, central databases and programs via both fixed and mobile units.

Corporate portals, which permit company staff to gain access to important internal company information from anywhere, via perhaps a mobile telephone, palmtop computer or a PC, are a very quickly growing part of the Internet software sector. Merrill Lynch has estimated that corporate portal market value will reach $15 000 million as early as 2002. Unisys expects with this newly-formed partnership to obtain vertical expertise within such areas as finance, transport and the public sector, in combination with Linq's comprehensive portal competence, resulting in a series of new mobile services and marketing possibilities on a global basis. Right from the start there are plans for a hundred or so new mobile applications for a similar number of markets within the next 18 months. The future users who will benefit from solutions deriving from the Linq partnership include the company's own global organisation and that of Unisys in the form of its established clients, along with other co-operative partners all over the world.

"This mobile portal technology has a fantastic potential, and we can expect to place a lot of new features and applications into our service packages to our operator and service supplier clients. These will definitely improve their staff access and productivity," comments Ola Larsén, Director Business Development of Unisys.
"We are delighted that such a prominent company as Unisys with its global reach has chosen us to be a partner. We see it as recognition of the technology that we have developed. Studies have shown that it provides efficiency increases of 25 % and a quadrupling of the contact interface with customers among the sales force," says Michael Mandahl, Linq's Managing Director.
