The Greek company Papastratos will become the first tobacco producer in the world to use the light-weight paperboard, Enso Performa, for completepackaging for cigarettes. The outer boxes are already produced in grammeweights of 180 g/m2, while the hard flip top boxes are currently made of 195 g/m2 paperboard. According to the manufacturer, Enso Paperboards in Imatra, Finland, the results of stiffness tests, and other properties of Enso Performa were so promising that the company has decided to gradually convert to a lower gramme weight when producing material for flip top boxes.

Papastratos is Greece’s largest and oldest tobacco company, well-known for a number of brand names, including the "President" label.
"The material used for flip top boxes must meet demanding requirements for consistency of quality and good printability properties. The high stiffness
of Enso Performa paperboard enables the gramme weight to be decreased without loss of stability", says Mr. Economides, Purchasing Director of Papastratos in Athens.
Enso Performa is a light and stiff, high-yield paperboard for food and tobacco packagings. Similar to the traditional SBS board, it is said to have
excellent organoleptic properties with no off-taste or odour. It is a three layer SBS board with CTM pulp in the middle layer. Compared to ordinary SBS board, the light and tough mixture of CTM and SBS pulp in the middle layer of Enso Performa allows a reduction in the gramme weight while still preserving the mechanical properties and offering the same good printing
qualities. As a result, the new product gives the possibility of a saving in costs of raw material of 10-20%./ins
