Brand image can be imperilled by Colour deviations in ads

Colour deviations in magazine advertisements can adversely affect the impression that readers form about the product and the brand. Also the design of an advertisement can increase its vulnerability to colour deviations, shows a study conducted by M-real,the University of Helsinki and United Magazines in collaboration with L'Oréal and Marimekko, whose advertisements were used to simulate colour deviations.

M-real is investing €7million in a new winder at its Kirkniemi Mill, Finland, to meet the increasing quality standards and need for higher production efficiency set by new wider HSWO (heat-set web offset) printing presses. The new winder will be installed on paper machine line 1, producing Galerie Lite publishing paper, and represents the latest technology in winding.

* major two-year programme to improve pulp quality consistency M-real’s ultra light-weight coated and light-weight coated papers, Galerie Lite and Galerie Brite, are benefitting from a more even surface, following the completion of a two-year project at M-real’s Kirkniemi Mill, Finland. The €13.9 million investment is now delivering improvements to the quality and consistency of pulp, as well as making operations at the mill more efficient.

* Specification based on environmental credentials and depth of colour management advice BBC Magazines, the UK’s third biggest publisher of consumer magazines, has chosen Galerie Fine Gloss coated paper from M-real for its lifestyle magazines including Gardener’s World, Good Food, Good Homes, Top Gear and Olive. Coinciding with the completion of the BBC’s Smart Repro project to bring all its repro in-house, the decision reflects the depth of M-real’s technical advice on colour management using Galerie Papers – which will eventually include the adoption of a tailored ICC profile - as well as the high environmental criteria set by the BBC.
