New alliance in insertion technology

Swedish based LIMT (Local Insertion Media Technology) has purchased Channelmatic, Inc. for USD 10,91 million using funds raised by D. Carnegie in Stockholm. LIMT, which has developed a method to insert local TV commercial spots into national television transmissions using MPEG2 technology, has already had huge success with its LVS 300 video server which it began marketing six months ago. Channelmatic is a leading US manufacturer of systems for digital automation and distribution solutions for the television industry with a world-wide sales and support organization.

”We have sought a U.S partner for a long time in order to expand upon our market leading position in Europe”, said Chairman of Limt, Stefan Ridderheim. ”Channelmatic’s technological superiority, its considerable market share, and understanding of the global television market made them an ideal partner. The company’s close association with the IndeNet Media Service Group, which markets broadcast and cable advertising sales management software, will also be beneficial”, he added.
President of Limt, Pierre Strasser, former Director of Market Development Telecommunications and Media for IBM Europe, Middle East and Africa said: ”The combination of Limt’s technology and know-how and Channelmatic’s long-standing experience of the industry allows us to better serve our customers on a changing market.”
Channelmatic already has more than 1,500 insertion sites installed in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Latin America. The first operational LIMT LVS 300 system came on air in Sweden last autumn and the company has already established sales and support organisations in Germany, France and the UK. The combination of the two companies’ systems, which offer Server Open capabilities, will allow seamless integration in mast-head and cable borne systems irrespective of server platform.
Limt also recently announced a strategic alliance with Norway-based, Lani International which is part of the CAG Group. Lani has recently made inroads into the American market through agreements with TCI, Time Warner and Bell for the delivery of Traffic and Billing systems. The Limt/Lani marketing and sales agreement means that the two companies will market each other’s products thereby increasing market penetration by offering TV channels a complete system solution.
