State-of-the-art NMT 450 mobile phone provides access to new network services

Several new NMT 450 network services, estimated to be active in various countries starting 1997, will be supported by the new Benefon Sigma Gold NMT 450i mobile phone which is being introduced by the Finnish Benefon Oy. As soon as the new system features are implemented into the network, the phone will give access to functions like number and name presentation of the person calling, indication of any waiting messages, and simplified international dialing. Further features are a 1250 mAh NiMH standard battery, allowing up to three hours of talk time and up to five days in standby position, and an in-built silent vibrating alert function in the phone.

The new Benefon Sigma Gold NMT 450i supports most of the features enabled by the new NMT 450 system specifications, many of which are already available in GSM networks.
If network support is provided, the company's new phone makes it possible to dial an international call prefix by simply pressing the "+"-key. Thereby, there is no need to remember country specific prefixes or country codes. The phone's so called Clip-function displays the number of the caller or the name if the caller's number has been stored in the phone's memory slot.
A Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) informs whether there are any messages to the user. If the phone has been switched off or out of radio coverage, a small envelope symbol appears in the display as soon as the phone is back in operation again, indicating that a new message is waiting to be monitored by the user.
To hinder illegal or unauthorized use of the phone, an enhanced SIS security check is made several times while the phone is in operation. Important from the operator's point of view is the phone's ability to support the Interleaving Channels-function which may increase the network's subscriber capacity by up to 70 per cent.
The in-built silent Vibrating Alert function of the Benefon Sigma Gold is intended to solve the disturbance often caused by a traditional ring signal. A new 1250 mAh standard battery, using the environmentally safer NiMH cells, is said to enable up to three hours of talk time and up to five days in standby position.
During its nine years' lifetime, Benefon Oy of Finland has introduced several NMT 450 mobile phones and developed into one of the most important manufacturers of NMT 450 mobile phones in the world.
