A new piece of technology can save the life of patients who, for various reasons, require assistance with breathing. It is a portable carbon dioxide detector, so small that it fits into a breast pocket, which quickly sets off an alarm if there is something wrong with the exhaled air. This technology has proved to be valuable in emergency situations, ambulance transportation, operations or transfers between hospital departments where fixed monitoring equipment is not available.

Una nuova apparecchiatura è in grado di salvare la vita di pazienti affetti da problemi respiratori. Si tratta di un rilevatore portatile di anidride carbonica, così piccolo che può essere trasportato nel taschino della giacca e dotato di un allarme che entra in funzione ogni qualvolta un'anomalia della respirazione viene rilevata. La tecnologia si è dimostrata estremamente utile in situazioni acute, quali il trasporto in ambulanza e operazioni e trasferimenti fra reparti ospedalieri, quando cioè il tradizionale supporto medico non è disponibile.

Eine neue Technik kann das Leben derjenigen Patienten retten, die aus verschiedenen Gründen Atemhilfe erhalten. Es handelt sich um einen sehr kleinen, tragbaren Kohlendioxydindikator, der in einer Brusttasche Platz hat und schnell Alarm schlägt, wenn etwas mit der ausgeatmeten Luft nicht in Ordnung ist. Die Technik hat sich in akuten Situationen, bei Krankenwagentransporten, Operationen oder Transporten innerhalb der einzelnen Krankenhausstationen ohne Zugang zu fester Überwachungsausrüstung, als wertvoll erwiesen.

Jämfört med gjutning och smide är det enligt företaget betydligt lättare att tillverka produkter med komplexa former. Det går t ex att göra krokiga eller spiralformade hål.

The use of HIP technology to produce complicated steel components can considerably reduce time and machining costs. According to Bodycote Powdermet of Sweden, this method results in a material with high strength and good corrosion resistance. Compared with casting and forging, the company claims that HIP makes it much easier to manufacture products that have complex shapes, such as multi-plane curves or with spiral holes.

Durch die Herstellung komplizierter Stahlkomponenten mit Hilfe der sog. HIP-Technik lassen sich Zeit und Kosten für maschinelle Bearbeitungsschritte einsparen. Dem schwedischen Unternehmen Bodycote Powdermet zufolge liefert das Verfahren ein hochfestes Material mit guter Korrosionsbeständigkeit. Laut Angabe lassen sich komplexe Formen im Vergleich zur Fertigung mit Guß- und Schmiedeverfahren wesentlich leichter herstellen. So sind z. B. gekrümmte oder spiralförmige Löcher kein Problem.
