PV modules performance under different weather

Solar power is the efficient, inexpensive, and accessible way to reach a clean energy future. With technology increase, solar panels become a more and more popular source of receiving renewable energy. In fact, the PV modules performance is different due to weather. Anyway, there are some uncertainties about solar panels revolve around things like cloud cover and shade, rain or snow. Eco Green Energy prepared a short overview of how climate conditions influence their efficiency.

PV modules performance in cloudy weather
Generally, solar panels generate electrical power under both direct and diffuse light. Even on less than clear and sunny days, solar cells can still generate a surprising quantity of electricity. While natural light is solar energy that moves straight from the sun to the ground, diffuse light has been scattered by particles in the atmosphere such as rainy clouds before reaching the earth. In other word, solar panels can still be productive even when the weather is cloudy. PV modules can produce between 30-50% of their optimal capacity in such conditions. The output depends on cloudy coverage.

Rainy and windy weather
Solar panels will also work correctly during rainy weather. In heavy rain, PV modules can generate 10 % – 20 % of their total output. Moreover, the occasional rainstorm could actually be good for your solar system’s production, because it’s a no-fuss and safe way to clean your panels. But consistent rain blocks the light, which could lead to a decrease in production.

Generally, before solar panels release into the market, they must pass the test of resilience under harsh weather conditions. Each solar panel must be tested for functionality under extreme weather conditions and receive Underwriter’s Laboratories certification (UL).

It is worth mentioning, that all products of Eco Green Energy obtained UL certification.

Snowy weather
During winter, solar panels work fine. The first thing we need to consider is winter time has fewer hours of sunshine than the summer. It can block PV modules from receiving solar light as usual. Until the snow is cleared, the sun’s rays will not reach the solar cells because of the heavy coating of snow covering them. Snow melts off quickly because the panels are pointed directly at the sun. Also, to prevent blocking and preserve your panels open for the sun, you can clean them. Read how to clean and maintain solar panels in our previous article.

Eco Green Energy is glad to bring high-quality PV modules around the world. Our mono and poly modules are made with Grade A cells and certified by TUV SUD (according to IEC 61215:2016), CE, ISO, PV CYCLE, FIDE, RETIE, Salt & Mist, UL.
