New abutment enables high aesthetic results for dental implants

- With a revolutionary tooth-colored ceramic abutment, it is now possible to restore a dental implant with an aesthetically appealing look, even in the most difficult cases, says Dorene Lynch, Vice President of marketing Nobel Biocare USA, Inc. The new abutment, called CerAdapt, is the latest addition to Brånemark System family of dental implant products.

Abutments, which unite Brånemark System implant fixture (screw) and the porcelain crown have, up to now, commonly been fabricated in titanium. Titanium meets two important dental implant specifications: it is reliable and it is biocompatible with human tissue.
However for a patient with a high lip line or thin gingival tissue, the titanium abutment may be visible through the gingiva. In other cases, the metal may be visible through the porcelain or through an aperture between the gingiva and the crown.
Clinical studies show that CerAdapt meets the specifications for strength and biocompatability with human tissue. And because of its optical qualities CerAdapt looks like a natural tooth, even through thin gingiva.
The ceramic abutment can be prepared like a natural tooth, offering the dental professional very high flexibility to shape the abutment to meet clinical challenges. And because porcelain bonds directly to the abutment, natural emergence profiles can be achieved.
The new abutment has been developed by two American dentists in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Abraham Ingber and Dr. Vincent Prestipino. CerAdapt is manufactured and marketed by Nobel Biocare AB in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Brånemark System is a registered trade mark and CerAdapt is a trade mark of Nobel Biocare AB.
