ABB Control Oy's new range of plastic enclosed safety switches won a prestigious design award at the 1997 Hannover Fair. The SafeLine safety switch range was awarded the highly respected iF (Industrie Forum Design Hannover) Industry Design Award, which recognises industrial products that are distinguished by user friendly qualities.

A major consideration during the development of the switches was the effects the materials and the manufacturing process would have on the environment. The switch design ensures that neither of these causes pollution.

Tested Safety
Suitable for both domestic installations and industrial use, SafeLine safety switches have a new plastic enclosure for a current range of 16 - 90A and have been tested to IEC 947-3.
The enclosure is made of a heat and impact resistant plastic that is self-extinguishing and difficult to ignite, conforming to UL 50 Enclosures for Electrical Equipment. The enclosure itself conforms to IEC 529 Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures and has a protection class of IP 65.
Security is a further major feature. The handles can be padlocked in the OFF position with three padlocks and the cover cannot be removed when the switch is in the ON position. The enclosure covers can also be sealed.

Easy to install
Simple installation was one of the main considerations during the design work. There are M or Pg sized threaded knockouts on both ends of the enclosure. In the industrial version, there are separate knockout openings for control wires. Blanking end plates are also available.
In the domestic installation version, cable clamps for two cables are provided as standard accessories. There is space in the enclosures for two auxiliary contacts and there are separate Phase, Earth and Neutral terminals, making the safety switches suitable for 4-wire as well as 5-wire systems./ins
