Very low inhalation and exhalation resistance is one of the advantages that characterise a new full face protective mask, called the SR 200. The mask is light, offers a wide field of view and minimises the risk of contact allergies, according to the Swedish manufacturer, Sundström Safety. This mask is now being launched on several European markets.

The new SR 200 full face mask is intended for use where an extremely good level of protection is required. Three valves for inhalation and two for exhalation make breathing much easier. The inhaled air is divided, so that 2/3 goes direct to the mouth and nose, instead of the conventional route through the visor and outer mask. The remaining 1/3 passes through the visor to prevent misting. The exhalation valves are specially designed and located to permit clear speech through the mask.
"It's easy to breathe through this mask, and its design means that users become less tired than usual when it is used for long periods," claims Joakim Johansson, Development Manager at Sundström Safety AB.

Balance and field of view in focus.
The SR 200 has a single casting shell and is manufactured in a size that fits most face shapes. The shell is made of silicon, keeps its shape and is neutral to the skin. The filter on the front points downwards to keep the mask properly balanced. The spherical shape contributes to the wide field of view.
"A safety feature is the orange colour of the filter sealing ring and the inspiration and expiration membranes. This colour makes it easy to see if any important part is missing or needs cleaning," says Joakim Johansson.
He also points out that the complete mask, except the visor, can be washed at 40 degrees, has an easily adjustable elastic strap head harness and a crown net of light material. After initial adjustment the mask is easily put on and taken off with a simple two-handed movement.

Many accessories
Accessories include spectacle frames and a welding visor. The standard polycarbonate visor may be replaced by a laminated glass alternative. The mask can also be connected to an external unit for compressed air breathing. A filter adapter, pre-filter holder, carrying strap and test ring for checking fit are included. Each mask is also marked with a bar code identification.
