D-shaped profile
extends EMI shielding gasket range

US-based Instrument Specialities has expanded its UltraFlex range of beryllium copper, knitted wire mesh EMI shielding gaskets with the addition of a D-shaped profile. This has been designed for applications where the width of the mounting flange is not wide enough to accommodate a single-fin gasket. It can be supplied on 7.62 metre rolls or pre-cut to length with finished ends to prevent fraying from occurring.

The gaskets, which according to the manufacturer are as much as 75 per cent lighter than conventional wire knit materials, are available in widths of 5.08 to 12.70 mm and heights of 3.30 to 9.53 mm. They are said to provide 100 per cent recovery of original height at up to 75 per cent deflection thus preserving the shield’s protective function. A knife-edge surface mounting reduces the compression force providing an additional barrier and helping to further prevent the ingress of RF noise. A pressure sensitive adhesive simplifies mounting on to the flange.
Made out of beryllium copper, which is said to be one of shielding’s most effective materials, the gaskets offer very high attenuation properties. If required, the gaskets can be plated with nickel, tin or cadmium.
Instrument Specialities has been working with electronic interference control products for more than 50 years and today offers the industry’s most comprehensive range of shielding products. The company also provides clients with fully integrated compliance testing, consulting and design assistance.
