The restructuring programme launched at M-real in the autumn of 2006 has improved the company’s financial situation and operational efficiency considerably.

West Bromwich, Konecranes UK - Customised cranes and hoists from Konecranes are playing a key role in boosting productivity at Wärtsilä's Italian engine manufacturing plant. During the last two years this facility — Delivery Centre Trieste — which produces engines for large ships and power plants, has been transformed to dramatically increase production levels and speed of throughput. The upgraded plant is now well positioned to serve the high growth opportunities opening up globally in these markets.

Avanta Prima, have been upgraded, and now offer superior printability combined with a more generous yield. The virgin fibre Avanta grades are especially designed for demanding end uses such as beautycare packaging, while Avanta Prima is also ideal for healthcare end uses.

M-real’s Express Board service is now available from four locations across Europe, the most recent inauguration being at M-real Stockstadt (Germany). M-real Consumer Packaging launched its Express Board concept to offer customers bespoke sheet sizes with a lead time of just three days excluding transportation.

The unique mix of brightness and opacity provided by Galerie Fine paper plays a supporting role in the continuing success of the influential international fashion magazine, Vogue.

M-real has launched a new sample system for Galerie Papers - a complete solution for selecting the right paper for magazines and other publications. It includes five bound swatchbooks, one for each Galerie Papers HSWO grade, printed with premium quality photographic images to display the high detail and color reproduction quality achievable. The design and layout of the sample system is the work of professional magazine designer, Mike McClafferty of Condé Nast UK.

* Specification based on environmental credentials and depth of colour management advice BBC Magazines, the UK’s third biggest publisher of consumer magazines, has chosen Galerie Fine Gloss coated paper from M-real for its lifestyle magazines including Gardener’s World, Good Food, Good Homes, Top Gear and Olive. Coinciding with the completion of the BBC’s Smart Repro project to bring all its repro in-house, the decision reflects the depth of M-real’s technical advice on colour management using Galerie Papers – which will eventually include the adoption of a tailored ICC profile - as well as the high environmental criteria set by the BBC.

* major two-year programme to improve pulp quality consistency M-real’s ultra light-weight coated and light-weight coated papers, Galerie Lite and Galerie Brite, are benefitting from a more even surface, following the completion of a two-year project at M-real’s Kirkniemi Mill, Finland. The €13.9 million investment is now delivering improvements to the quality and consistency of pulp, as well as making operations at the mill more efficient.

M-real Consumer Packaging Business Area has joined the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). The move underlines the company's commitment to sustainability, and complements the major internal measures it has taken over the past decade to reduce wastage and weight in the production of paperboard.
