MultiArt Brand aims to change the concept of coated paper

European paper merchants, Papyrus, and leading forestry product group, Stora Enso have joined forces in an initiative to create a novel concept in paper services, properties and product quality. The result is MultiArt, a paper concept designed to exceed traditional expectations in the printing world.

Available exclusively through Papyrus the improved MultiArt range is now being introduced in the European countries where Papyrus is present. This approach is backed by considerable investment by Stora Enso both in the technical features of the product, such as whiteness and printability, and in the new sheeting facility in Antwerp. The launch also comes with a promise from the company to continue to invest in development resources, guarantees of availability and quality consistency. Papyrus has matched its partner with the introduction of concepts that aim to take customer services to new levels. The target is to build a strong European brand.

Martin Plantin, Brand manager at Papyrus points out, "Today, customers have individual requirements when they order coated paper. We are trying to anticipate their needs with a comprehensive paper range." Coupled with the enhanced properties of the MultiArt paper, Papyrus is offering customers delivery precision, extended product availablity and extensive e-services. "A great paper combined with great services means we are offering something better than paper," says Plantin.

MultiArt itself comes in a range from 90 to 350 g/m2, in silk or gloss finishes in a wide variety of sizes and grammages. It is a high-white coated paper with a smooth, even surface for quality image reproduction in sheet offset. It has been developed for good runnability with appropriate stiffness coupled with balanced ink setting rates. The gloss finish is intended for demanding multicolour printing, while the silk quality is more suited to applications that demand both readability and quality image reproduction.

Commitment to customer
"We are committed to supporting customers in better ways," explains Plantin, "including helping solving their critical issues when it comes to paper selection and application". This includes the introduction of a new generation of e-based services that will make ordering over the internet easier and faster with advanced order tracking facilities. Papyrus is also introducing a total quality management system and a novel inventory control system. Alongside these facilities, the company is developing targeted customer support services that include education, training and paper selection systems.

Strong for Europe
"Customers will be able to take advantage of the combination of a strong pan-European brand and a pan-European merchant. Part of the company's success is due to its unrivalled level of service," he notes. "We have made considerable investment in computer and logistics systems to ensure that our paper is available in the right amount, size and grammage, when and where it is needed."

Papyrus now operates in 12 European countries with subsidiaries in the Nordic countries, The Baltic States, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Hungary and Poland. The company has 1,600 employees and sales in 2001 of Euro 890.6 m. It is wholly owned by Stora Enso, one of the world's leading forest products groups. In 2001 Stora Enso had sales of EUR 13.5 billion employing around 43 000 people in more than 40 countries. Its shares are listed in Helsinki, New York and Stockholm.
