Meeting the growing demand for a quiet life

An increased emphasis on noise reduction in industrial environments has been made by Hägglunds Drives. It is offering customers greater flexibility in noise control solutions in applications that employ hydraulic drive systems.

The new package of noise control options has been developed to broaden Hägglunds' ability to reduce noise levels in their hydraulic systems. The company has invested considerably in extending the noise control options available to its customers. Now there are five standard options that can be applied to hydraulic plant and associated equipment.
"Each option offers a different degree of noise reduction measures," says Hans Sahlin, Technical Director, at Hägglunds Drives.

Noise source
In hydraulic systems, there are three principal types of noise, explains Sahlin. "These are structural noise coming from vibrating pumps, motors etc, air borne noise created for example by cooling fans and fluid borne noise emitted by pumps or motors as pulsations in the oil flow. "Noise control is achieved through a number of measures including appropriate enclosure design, together with dampening technology.
Each of the options help to address the different noise conditions. The most stringent option can meet requirements for installations where noise levels are in the region of 60-65 dBA, compared to 72-80 dBA which is typically found in an office environment.
The company is able to provide noise test results on request for individual power units. These measurements are based on both internal and environmental standards set for noise assessment.
Hägglunds Drives is one of the leading companies worldwide in the development and production of hydraulic drive systems. Its systems are used in a wide range of applications in for example the pulp & paper industry, chemicals, rubber, plastic, fishing, marine, offshore, cement, mining, bulk material handling and recycling. It is part of the Atle group, based in Sweden. The company exports 80% of its hydraulic drive systems mainly to Europe, North America and Asia. It has sales offices in 15 countries with representatives in a further 20 countries.
